About CMER

Mobile devices outship desktop computers 20 to 1, and for many students the mobile devices is becoming the computer. Smart phones, such the BlackBerry, are more powerful than the PCs of a few years ago and they represent a useful tool for conveying computer science concepts. This calls for innovations in the computer science curriculum, and mobile devices are a greay way for changing the image of computer science among high school students and their parents. To this end, we have established the Centre for Mobile Education and Research (CMER), which is funded in part by Research In Motion (RIM).

The Centre for Mobile Education and Research (CMER) is founded by Prof. Qusay H. Mahmoud. The goals of CMER include conducting research on the integration of mobile devices into the computer science and engineering curriculums, training mobile education researchs, and translating research into practical improvements that facilitate the revitalization of computer science education.

CMER will offer applications and services that facilitate mobile education and the integration of mobile devices into the computer science curriculum. In addition, it will:

We hope to reach and educate high school students about computer science as both an area of research and a career goal.
